Name:
Silver Date
of Birth: ~1976
Breed:
a darling
flea-bitten gray Quarter Horse mare
How
horse came to Ranger: She came to us in the fall of
2001 with her buddy Kit
from the Marine base, Camp
Lejeune,
in North Carolina. Silver had gone to Camp Lejeune as a 6
year old, in foal, in 1986. After foaling in 1987, she spent
the next 15 years working at the base stables. Increasing
ringbone problems forced her retirement. She arrived at the
Ranger Foundation virtually unable to walk much for the first
24 hours due to the long unaccustomed trailer ride from North
Carolina.
Interesting characteristics
or anecdotes: Recently, volunteer Diana,
Silver's primary caretaker, had this to say about
Silver: "she is a wonderfully sweet obedient horse
who loves routine. Will do anything and everything that
you ask of her. She loves to whinny to me when she sees
me coming with her
breakfast and supper. Very good watch horse.
Anything going on around her - out in the valley - she
sees it - we always know if someone is coming or of
other happenings. She is the perfect horse."
Special
care needs: Low-carb diet
Favorite
Ranger Buddies: She
originally lived with Lucy,
Patti
and Nina.
However, during a rearrangement, she came to Gary's group (Gary,
Poco
and Ebby). It
was love at first sight (well, for Gary) and Gary
dropped Poco instantly and stuck to Silver like
glue. Silver never gave him a second look, but that
didn't matter. Silver never outwardly acted like
she cared about anyone - she just ignored them.
